The facility owner needed to replace the aging coal chutes but did not have up to date drawings of the facility or equipment. AsBuilt scanned the facility and equipment to create design backgrounds. After the new design was complete, AsBuilt checked the fabrication for accuracy before shipping to the installation site.
AsBuilt spent approximately 8 hours onsite at the fabrication shop to capture the as-fabricated parts. The data was processed, and the fabricated parts were confirmed before shipping to the facility owner.
Fabrication Confirmation – Should the fabrication be incorrect, the client did not have additional time in the installation schedule to correct issues. All parts were confirmed as correct before shipping to the plant site.
Installation Planning – The installation contractor was able to review the new parts and plan the installation in 3D.
Clash Detection – The newly fabricated parts were placed in the point cloud to confirm exact fitment. This step confirmed fit and ensured the owner there was no clash with the existing equipment or structure.
Risk Management – Scanning the fabricated parts at the fabrication shop reduced the risk of delays during the installation. Should the fabrication be shipped with errors, the installation could be drastically delayed and impact the overall project schedule.
