A legacy coal fire power plant had to upgrade their bottom ash handling system. The plan was to convert to a dry ash system for regulatory compliance. Unfortunately, up to date drawings of the area were not available for the multimillion-dollar upgrade project.
3D laser scanning was used to capture the as-is condition and the scan data was used to develop a 3D model of the equipment.
3D Modeling of As-Is Conditions – Even if the 2D drawings were available, they would not be as accurate as working with the 3D scan data.
Multi-Level Visualization – AsBuilt captured the basement level and the 2 levels above. This provided 3D modeling of the entire work area for ease of planning, rigging, demolition, and installation.
Conceptual Review – The concepts were easily shared with the plant management, operations, and maintenance teams to develop the best solution for the complex problem.
New Equipment Overlays – The new equipment models were placed in the point cloud to determine exact placement and visual clash checking.
